1968 Chevrolet Camaro

1968 Chevy Sunoco Camaro Tribute

Rides from the want ads

Excellent pictures and information in this want ad.

History: Mark Donohue’s and Paul Van Valkenburg’s timeless book, The Unfair Advantage, revealed how Roger Penske and Donohue painstakingly modified their Camaro team cars to be wicked competitors. when it comes to famous race car Camaros, few are as iconic as the Sunoco (referring to the Sun Oil Company) Camaro. Back in the ’60s Sunoco/Penske was, for all purposes, the Chevrolet factory team in Trans-Am racing. Backed by Rodger Penske with Mark Donohue behind the wheel, they crushed the competition in 1968 (in a ’68) winning 10 of the 13 races that year. LeRoy Gane was the car’s crew chief for drivers Donohue and Craig Fisher. In 1969 they switched to the new body style and again won the championship by placing first six out of 12 times. The reason they didn’t dominate as decisively in 1969 compared to 1968 was that Ford caught up a bit in the performance department with the introduction of their ’69 Boss 302 Mustang.

The Sunoco Camaro is powered by a big block detuned race 350cid V8 engine, with a 4-speed transmission. The engine was fully built with a street tune, however, very surprised the car drives exceptionally well and is not too loud for street driving which is what this Sunoco Camaro was built for. It has power steering, power brakes, fully detailed engine bay with custom pieces made especially just for this car.

The Body is in great condition and has been sandblasted, coated, and painted during restoration. Paint is of very high quality and has a mirror finish to it. Body is rock solid, and all detailed undercarriage. The Body is straight as an arrow. During the restoration process, it received all new mounts, new door seals, all new chrome pieces, new weather stripping, all new lights, bumpers, grill, all new bolts and nuts all around, all new windows etc.. Incredible amount of attention, and detail has been placed in this car. Underneath all floors are in excellent shape. I encourage you to see all the detailed pictures I posted.

The interior was all done brand new during the restoration, Seats, door panels, dash, and carpets etc. Custom Sunoco steering wheel with center pad, roll bar, full TMI interior, racing rpm gauges with pod, fire extinguisher and more. Also, have an extra seat.

This car will turn heads at every corner!

1925 Dodge Roadster Hot Rod

Rides from the want ads.

Custom built by The Boling Bros. Early Iron
-327 engine
-2speed powerglide transmission.
-56′ Ford rear end
Boling Brothers Early Iron fabricated the custom ‘rails from 2×4-inch tubing. with 2×3 where it kicks up at the rear. The front and rear split wishbones mount to the ‘rails though an opening in the channeled body- Pete & Jake’s shock absorbers ride at all four corners and drum brakes grab all four wheels. In the front. Derrek added a Super Bell dropped axle with Ford spindles. The Corvair steering box is controlled by a custom-built column. The rear axle hangs on quarter-elliptic springs.

A Chevy small-block of unknown origins, pulled from the engine bay of an operational pickup. The pickup also provided the Powerglide automatic transmission.

Body & Paint:
Body is lengthened about 4 inches with a narrowed Dodge grille. Derrek built some custom side skins to replace the missing doors. He created an upper bead along the added steel to match the rest of the body. eliminating the door openings but retaining a seam to help break up the body lines and avoid the smooth look of a fiberglass car. A single center Model A taillight is a great touch. mounted above a Model T fuel tank. which was notched to clear the rearend. Pepper Sanchez from Royale Vintage in Tulare took care of any sheetmetal flaws and painted it in deep maroon. Pinstriping by Ruben. out of Visalia. California. followed up with some clean ‘striping on the grille shell. cowl. and dash.

It’s super simple on the inside of the roadster. Derrek and any passenger settle into custom seating. built to use the floor and the rear portion of the body as the seat structure. separated by a center piece. All the stitching was handled by Chavez Upholstery in Visalia. The stock Dodge dash is painted to match the rest of the car. detailed with some additional ‘striping. and dressed up with Stewart Warner Wings gauges: speedo. water temp. and oil pressure. A wrecking yard shifter and flat four-spoke sprint car steering wheel were practical and appropriate.

The car runs and drives great. This build by The Boling Bros. that was featured in Rod n Custom magazine, could be considered as their flagship model for their shop. They still use its image on their website and t-shirts. Clean title with pink in hand. It does have oil and transmission leaks that will need to be addressed. The only reason I’m selling is to remodel my house. Asking 24,900 and willing to negotiate.
